Public Works Manager Located just 90 minutes north of Edmonton, in a picturesque landscape of boreal forest, lakes, rivers and streams, the Athabasca Region consists of two urban municipalities, eight summer villages, and eleven hamlets, making it a “live, work, play” paradise. Athabasca County is currently accepting applications for a full time, permanent Public Works Manager to join our team in the town of Athabasca. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services, the Public Works Manager is responsible for assisting in the management and administration of the Infrastructure Services Department, including roadway maintenance and construction operations, shop and equipment services, and utilities. Key Responsibilities: Managing, directing, coordinating and supervising the delivery of operational services under the Infrastructure Services Department (roadway maintenance & construction, shop &equipment services, utilities).- Ensure that all services being offered by the department are in accordance with the policies established by Council, including public awareness and engagement.
- Supervision and performance management of the Public Works Maintenance Foreman, Construction Coordinator, Shop Foreman, and others as assigned by the Director.
- Assist with long-term planning and budget preparation.
- Coordinating the development and maintenance of the County Health & Safety programs to ensure compliance with all required Alberta OH&S legislation.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of management experience as well as project management experience in the maintenance and construction of roads, bridges, and utilities in a municipal setting. Completion of a Civil Engineering Technology diploma from a recognized institution and eligibility for CET designation is preferred. Candidates must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

The current annual salary range for this position is $88,250 - $103,903. Athabasca County also offers an extensive total compensation package that includes attractive time off policies, employer paid extended health & wellness benefits and contributions to the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP).
